What is Selvedge?

The edge that finishes itself. Selvedge—from "self-edge"—is what happens when a shuttle loom completes a row. The thread loops back on itself, forming a clean, bound edge that will never fray. That edge runs down the outseam of your jeans. When you cuff them, you see it. It's not decoration. It is structural proof of how the fabric was made—and it's why a pair of selvedge jeans, worn in properly, outlasts anything else in your wardrobe.

The Loom (The Process)

Shuttle loom. The slow way. Most denim today is made on projectile looms—fast, wide, efficient. A shuttle loom runs narrow and slow, passing a single shuttle back and forth across the warp. It takes longer. It produces less. But the tension it creates gives the fabric a density and character that modern looms simply cannot replicate.
